The Power of Colour......
If you have spent some time exploring the WhyWeight website, you probably will have realised that the categories have their own colours, and that I love to use colour in the work that I do on the website.
This is a natural overflow from how I use colour in my own life. I only use certain colours in my bedroom, and I use completely different colours in my workspace - colours that I would never think of having in other rooms in my home. Then their are the colours that I wear - whilst I love to wear yellow during Summer, there isn’t a single item of clothing in my Winter wardrobe that is yellow. I often wear dark blue and navy in Winter, yet seldom wear blue at any other time of the year.
Using colour during Winter can be especially helpful and beneficial. Whether it’s the colour of the clothes you wear, changing the colours in your bedroom - by changing the colour of your bedding, curtains or other more subtle accessories, like towels in the bathroom, or adding certain colourful items to your office or work environment.
Just adding a few specific coloured accessories can change the ambience of a room and evoke a certain state of mind.
On a Monday which is usually my day off from work, I seldom do much more than the smallest chores or the simplest of errands, as I often take a few hours to explore my ‘Dreams and Desires’. I call this my ‘Dream Time’. This usually means I am wide awake, although in a hazy, reflective state. I like to wear the colours that will best suit what I am doing, or really what I would like to be doing. For me the best colours to use when I am exploring my dreams are purple, black and maroon - although I seldom wear any of those colours. So I use other things in these colours - crystals or stones, flowers, candles, lamplight (there is a huge variety of coloured light bulbs available), pictures, and sometimes even socks, (I have the most amazing collection of different coloured pairs of socks ;o). There is no magic or mystery (although I enjoy the mysterious and magical results) in using colour to seek solution, or evoke a certain state of mind. There has been many years of scientific study and research into colour, and it’s influence on people, with some incredible findings and results.
Yet, certain colours affect some people one way..... and affect others in a different way, so you really need to find your own sense of what each colour means to you personally. Above is a chart of Winter colours and their meanings, that you can use as a guide to help you evoke a certain state of mind. All you need to do is use your coloured item as a reminder for what you want to think about during the course of working with that colour. So on the Mondays that I want to spend some time reflecting on my ‘Dreams and Desires’ and evoke a state of mind to create my ‘Dream Time’ - I would probably wear my black and maroon socks, carry a black crystal (Obsidian or an Apache Teardrop) in my pocket, burn a red candle or turn my Rose Quartz lamp on. These items create little reminders for me to keep my thoughts and intent focused on reflecting on my ‘Dreams and Desires’. Most times this works well for me, with the most magical results. I also use music and affirmations to support what I am doing.
If your mind is in chaos and your thoughts are conflicted, take a little time to water indoor pot plants and wipe clean their leaves, using the green colour of their leaves to create inner balance, allowing for clearing and growth. Lighting a fire during Winter and gazing into the multicoloured flames can also evoke a deep state of warmth and well-being, creating the right ambience for reflective and introspective thought.
Using colour in your work environment can also produce tremendous benefits. I am basically an easygoing person, and sometimes because of this, I allow my work colleagues to take advantage of me. When this becomes an issue for me, I find that wearing the colour blue with intent - especially deep and dark blues, helps me to find my voice, stand my ground and express myself truthfully and honestly.
Explore the colours of Winter to evoke a thoughtful state of mind and to deepen your inner reflection and contemplation at this time!
