“Who Is The One?”
If you want to make changes in your life....
‘Who Is The One?’ ....that will do it for you?
I can really understand why we decide to make changes and set New Year’s resolutions on January the 1st, merely because, after the overindulgence of the festive season.... most people feel pretty awful. If you have overindulged with food, especially the rich, temptingly delicious Christmas fare you will probably feel heavy and sluggish and your energy levels are sadly depleted, with the indulgence of alcohol and the lack of exercise just adding to that heavy body and mental fuzzy feeling.
At the time of the New Year, when we are celebrating new beginnings, fresh starts and a different perspective, what we should be feeling is healthy, happy and energised.... yet is it any wonder that we feel so awful.... guilt just adding to how terrible we feel?
To appease our sense of guilt, we make promises to ourselves, set ‘New Year’s Resolutions’ and decide to make changes on the spur of the ‘day before’ or the ‘morning after’!
Yet a week later, or maybe a month or more, those commitments and promises we made to ourselves and others, will be forgotten, or merely shoved to one side in the distant past of the New Year celebrations. Sometimes, we feel shallow and inconsequential, as we try to forget the commitments we made in a barrage of ready made excuses: too little time, the stress of work and family pressure, too little money, too little energy.... and on and on!
Yet I believe, that ultimately the New Year’s resolutions and commitments we made to ourselves, are the ideals, dreams and desires .....the changes we DO want to make!
To loose weight, stop smoking, indulge in moderation, be punctual, study harder, spend more time with our family and friends, get out of debt and be more financially secure, work less and play more, have more fun and laugh more! These are the things we should be striving for and wanting to achieve.
Whenever I get stuck during a project, or feel completely overwhelmed with responsibilities and commitments, my husband (a man of few words, although usually the wise words I need to hear at the time ;o) always states a question:
How do you eat an Elephant? (Not that I would ever consider eating an Elephant, just that it’s a very large animal, and one of my favourites ;o)
Eating an Elephant... can be likened to any major accomplisment you want to acieve or endeavour you want to undertake!
So.... How do you eat an elephant?
One bite at a time!
And so it is with any project you are busy with or any changes you want to make in your life!
How do you complete a project, achieve success in your endeavours, and bring about changes to yourself and your lifestyle?
One Step At A Time!
While making our list of resolutions, goals we want to achieve and the changes we want to make in our life can be overwhelming, (just like eating an Elephant ;o) we are capable and able to fulfil our hearts desires, accomplish our dreams, follow our ideals and achieve success in unlimited proportion.......
What we lack is the fundamentals, the foundation, the building blocks on which to start our journey to achievement and success!
And it’s usually the things we know (and not the things we don’t ;o) that cause us to procrastinate and that stop us from starting. We know we have to make changes to our lifestyle if we are going to achieve our desired weight and dream body: drinking water, eating healthy food, indulging in moderation, exercising more, getting enough sleep, rest and relaxation.
If we want to get out of debt and eventually be financially secure, we know we have to cut up the credit cards, close the clothing accounts, spend less and sacrifice more!
Trying to accomplish all of those changes in one day will just make us feel overwhelmed and probably stop us from starting.
What we need to consider before contemplating changes like eating healthy food and only indulging in moderation, or cutting up those credit cards and sacrificing some of the things we really love.... is the fundamentals, those elusive ingredients that give us the courage to see us through to success!
So if you find that you want to make changes, before jumping right in and starting that extreme diet, and making severe and radical changes to your lifestyle (which you will probably come to resent and just rebel against) take some of that enthusiasm and share and explore some of our A to Z Steps.
