Explore and Experiment!
instead of another cup of coffee or tea, Eat an Apple!
Make a fruit salad and create a taste sensation!

The season of Spring is your opportunity to learn a new way of eating,
to experiment with different concepts and fresh ideas.
Spring can be an unstable time in terms of the weather
- one day it’s warm and even hot, perfect for eating raw fruit and especially salads. While the next day is cool and the Spring rains can drop the temperature, so an appetising soup or hot stew appeals to the taste buds.

Rather than ignoring the last of the Winter oranges, add them to Butternut
soup with a few slices of ginger. Squeeze the juice of lemons and oranges into
a mix of chopped carrots, sliced ginger and some pieces of green apple, then liquidise them to make a refreshing Spring juice. Add pineapple, red and green apples, plus a banana to the chicken curry or even apricots, peach slices and a tomato or two, to the savoury beef stew. Add sliced Spring fruit to chopped vegetables to create interesting and delicious stir fry’s.

Explore and Experiment!

Involve your family in making nutritious, healthy fruit salads. Slice a watermelon in half, and core the inner flesh into bite size pieces. Add a selection of Spring Fruit and make a fruit salad boat in the half watermelon shell, (it also looks great as a Spring Lunch Table decoration or as a healthy addition to a children’s party ;o):

[ Red and Green Apples ] [ Bananas ] [ Blueberries ] [ Grapefruit ]
[
Lemons ] [ Mango ] [ Oranges ] [ Pawpaw ] [ Pineapple ] [ Plums ]
[
Strawberries ] [ Watermelon ]

Take advantage of the end of the [ Avocado ] season by adding tasty tuna salad.

And if [ Dates ] are available add them to lunch box’s for a healthy treat!

Use this time to experiment with different taste sensations keeping your focus on healthy and nutritious. This is the time to explore your eating plan without restrictions of what is ‘Legal and Illegal’ to eat. Reflect on your past eating plan and come up with creative ideas to replace less healthy snacks with fun and interesting healthy and nutritious ideas. If you find that your daily quota of coffee and tea has exceeded the healthy limit during the course of the cold Winter, rather than trying to eliminate coffee or tea from your diet, or even minimise your intake - which will leave you feeling wanting and needy, eat an apple when you would normally drink a cup of coffee or tea midmorning or afternoon, (start by just replacing one cup of tea or coffee with an apple). Think of healthy alternatives to replace your less healthy habits. It’s much easier to change a less healthy habit by replacing it with something more nutritious.

Please share your ideas - [ E-mail ] - Thanks!

Spring Updates:

  • My husband bought fresh fruit to make a fruit salad and the day turned cold, wet and miserable, so we added the fruit to a beef stew with amazingly tasty results!
  • We made banana fritters with a little sugar, cinnamon and lemon juice for a warm and tasty dessert.
