Radical Change!
By Bevskins

Good Hair Days.... and those Blonde Moments!

Isn't it amazing how having your hair done changes your attitude about life; Your looks and your confidence?

No matter what you have done - cut and blow, styled cut or radical colour change - it certainly changes how your face looks!!....??

I have had a couple of career changes in my life - banking, advertising, admin. and secretarial temp jobs, hotel industry, travel - never really finding exactly what industry I was looking for. So when I was retrenched in 1991, I started temping again for a Personnel Agency, doing secretarial, admin. and general staff duties.  I was fully trained on about 11 different computer systems (Word, Multimate, Lotus etc), which was quite unusual in those days and yet with all this skill I was only ever hired to temp for switchboard, menial computer and secretarial tasks. I was invariably called back to the same companies that I had temped for in better positions or longer contracts but only after I had proved my worth.  It was frustrating and I thought maybe that it was my personal skills or lack of career direction? Where could the problem lie?

The answer to this, I found out later, was simple - I was born a true blue-eyed blonde and always wore my thick hair long and wavy.

I WAS SEEN AS THE ORIGINAL DUMB BLONDE!
(and who’s idea was it anyway, that ‘blondes’ are dumb???)

So, here I was, at a low in my "career" and on the home front - my boyfriend's (now husband) family was in the middle of a major break-up, which laid our future plans together into a tailspin. I was living with my boyfriend on his parent's property, so we were really caught up in the middle of their problems.

I felt helpless in making things easier or better at home and in my working life, so on a coffee break with my sister-in-law and best friend (a hairdresser), decided that if I could not change things at home or at the office for the better, maybe I could change me?

And a radical change it was - she coloured my hair burgundy red wine and styled my hair straight!

WOW!!!
.....not only did it change my look, it also changed my outlook and work situation.

The first temp job I did after I had my hair dyed was awesome - no longer did I get asked the first day on a job "Do you know how to …?" it was "you know what to do and we'll leave you to it!".  I was even asked to stay on permanently at a couple of the companies that I worked for. Seems like a lot of people do stereotype even when they think they don't.

Hubby's reaction??

WOW factor no. 2.
(....and it did help a little with our love life even if it did not help his home situation.....;o)

Since then, whenever I feel the need to boost my ego, confidence or just have a general mood upliftment (usually at the beginning of spring!), I call a friend who comes over to my house, we sit in the garden and she does my hair.  I have gone from blonde, to burgundy, to mahogany, to blonde with red highlights and reverse - and the best is, I never even have to tell my Good-Hair-Day lady what colour I need!

So, if you need a change or even a mood lift
give your friendly hairdresser a call!

And spring-clean your look!
