PAWPAW - PAPAYAS

Benefits

  • Excellent source of beta carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A.
  • Rich in vitamin C.

Orange fleshed pawpaw or papayas are an excellent source of beta carotene, the plant form of vitamin A, which is essential for growth and normal cell division. In addition, a whole fruit supplies more than twice an adult’s daily requirement of vitamin C. Both beta carotene and vitamin C act as antioxidants, neutralising the free radicals that can damage cells and increase the risk of cancer. Pawpaws or papayas also provide dietary fibre, potassium (which helps to counteract the effects of excessive sodium intake) and some calcium for strong teeth and bones.
