Music and Meditation with Magical results!

When something is worrying me or I am frustrated and irritated without knowing the cause, I know I need to clear my schedule and take some time to meditate and by ‘meditate’, I don’t mean sit with my legs crossed and eyes closed...... because that’s just an invitation for me to think about all the things I should be doing, need to be doing and want to be doing.... and the last thing I focus on is the thing that’s worrying me! *Grin*

I found what works for me, and so I follow my own ‘art of meditation’ - I play some music I love, something with an upbeat rhythm and I set about doing my household chores.... the more serious the issue, the more serious my cleaning! *Grin*

The act of moving my body in time to the music while accomplishing those ‘mindless’ chores like cleaning the bathroom or making the bed, calms my turbulent emotions, gives me a sense of achievement with every completed chore, and stills my chaotic thoughts. Allowing me to focus solely on the challenging problem at hand!

As my emotions calm and my thoughts clear, I am able to focus on the issue, ponder and reflect on it from different and varying angles and get a much deeper perspective. Sometimes it takes only five minutes for me to come to a more harmonious conclusion, and sometimes it takes a couple of hours or a couple of days!

Usually the combination of the rhythm of the music and moving my body, and the clarity of thought, gives me an almost magical feeling. It energises me and motivates me to act upon my reflective thoughts bringing about the most extraordinary results!

I tried doing my ‘meditation’ without music, or without physically moving my body... with varying results. For me, the combination of music, moving my body by doing chores or dancing around the room, and the time to calm my emotions and still my chaotic thoughts..... is what works best for me.

And it works with the most magical results!

It allows me to literally ‘face the music’, and gives me a clarity of thought and most times a harmonious solution. For those times when I am unable to find a solution, I am usually able to accept that there is little I can do, and really just the acknowledgement and acceptance of the given situation brings understanding about what’s important.

Meditation is the simple act of quietening one’s mind to focus on a sole ‘thought or issue’, allowing yourself to ponder and reflect on that issue and to revolve it in your mind to see it from many varying and different perspectives, giving you a number of choices to act upon.

Sonia Choquette, explained ‘Meditation’ as:

“Meditation is the most effective way to sharpen your awareness because it clears away the mental noise and distractions that prevent you from noticing what is important here and now. Meditation helps you become more relaxed, balanced, and present in the moment. If you’ve never meditated, don’t worry. It’s not difficult. It is quite simply the art of relaxing your body, resting your emotions, and quieting your mind for a few minutes a day.”

Physically moving my body to the tune of the music while dancing or doing chores, helps to use the excess energy I have early in the day. Accomplishing some tasks like household chores, needs little mental focus, although it gives me a sense of achievement and satisfaction for a job well done - allowing me to calm my emotions and still my thoughts. This combination allows me to focus on the sole issue, work it, revolve it, reflect on it and ponder through all the options. The physical movement, calm emotions and stillness of thought also allows me to balance and harmonise my body, mind and spiritual essence leaving me feeling magically energised, serene and secure!

Meditation, in whatever form you choose to practice, whether it be five minutes every day or five hours once a week, empowers you to find those almost magical solutions that are most relevant to you and your life right now!
