MANGOES

Benefits

  • Excellent source of beta carotene, which the body converts into vitamin A.
  • One medium-size mango supplies more than the adult daily vitamin C requirement.

Mangoes are one of my favourite fruit, and although they originated in India they are now grown throughout the tropics. A ripe fruit, which should yield to slight pressure, has smooth, orange-yellow flesh and is honey-sweet. It is rich in vitamin C and beta-carotene, and in Antioxidants which may help protect against cancers and heart disease. It is also high in natural fruit sugar.

Eating a ripe, juicy mango can be messy, although juicy, nutritious and fun! I usually send my kids outside to eat there mangoes or wait until they are in the bath. *Grin*

Alternatively, try cutting a vertical slice either side of the stone and scoring each half into cubes, then slice the cubes off the skin.
