Colour Fun Menu

Colour has been used since the earliest days of our history as a means to heal and uplift our spirits. Most of us are aware of the regenerative effect of sunlight in healing wounds and its role in the body’s making of Vitamin D.

The different wavelengths of light, which we perceive as colour, affect every aspect of our physiology. Some colours arouse our energy while others soothe and relax us, encouraging sleep.

Colour helps us to interpret our world and even plays a vital role in influencing our perceptions and conditioning. On a geographical level the natural colours of a landscape and the social colours of its people distinguish one country and culture from another.

As the colour of the seasons change, while the bright, high vibrational colours of summer feed and energise us, the absence of colour in winter, slows and shuts us down. Our eyes and all the cells in our body are sensitive to light and the vibration and influence of colour. Our circulation, nervous system and digestive systems as well as all our vital organs are constantly influenced and altered by the effects of the colours we wear, eat, drink and see in the world around us.

Colour can be used to lighten our mood, or bring about a sense of calm and serenity. Wearing red can energise and motivate one person, while green clothing can have a calming influence on a hyperactive child.

Natural food, like fruit and vegetables lets us know when it’s ready to eat simply by it’s colour. Eating a raw, green tomato is unnatural and unhealthy, yet a plump, red tomato picked fresh is like eating candy off a tree!

Because each of us is unique, how we perceive colour and the way it influences us, is as unique to one person as it is to another. Some people love colour and fill their lives with vibrant colour in the food they eat, the clothes they wear, the car they drive, and how they decorate their home and working environment. Yet others prefer the softer shades of pastel colours and subtle hues of white, cream, black and grey!

‘Feeling Blue’ represents sadness and depression, and most moms know exactly what I mean when they have experienced the ‘third day blues’ or ‘baby blues’! Gazing at a blue sky can bring peace and tranquility.... almost instantly! Yet how people who provide us with the most essential services got hung with the label ‘Blue Collar Worker’ - I have no idea!

Colour influences us on the most subtle and basic of levels and does affect the way we feel. Knowing more about colour and how it effects you, can improve your self-esteem and self-image just by changing the colours that you wear. Having more understanding as to why and how colour effects you can help you change the way you react to certain events and situations. Changing your hair colour can radically change your confidence levels, both negatively and positively!

Colour affects what we eat, sometimes even when and where we eat certain foods. Would you eat a ‘Green’ banana or a banana with ‘Black’ skin? I doubt it! But a yellow, sun ripened banana is Nature’s perfect food.

In the coming weeks we will explore colour, just for the fun of it! If you would like to join in and contribute to our ‘Colour Fun Menu’ - please copy and paste the following colours into an email and add your comments and feelings.
