January 2004
Every now and again I receive a story from someone who has successfully taken their problems and fears and turned them into challenges, opportunities and success. One thing is for sure, we all have problems, we all have fears.... how we face them and deal with what life throws our way... is up us!
Celia had the courage to face her fears, and turn here problems into a very successful business opportunity. Her story inspired me and Celia is a great example to all of us. Well done Celia!
Emotions made me gain 30 kg’s in 3 months!
I never used to have any problems with my weight. I ate what I wanted, when I wanted to. I never did any exercises and my life was great!
15 years ago I had my son and after his birth I still wore a 8 size dress for three years … I was 23 at that point and the envy of everyone! I did no exercise & still had a great body!
Three years later we moved to a small town! The first few months were wonderful and we had a great time. We made lots of friends (some are still friends today). We had dinner parties and all our concerns regarding moving to a small town vanished.
Slowly but surely I discovered the snickering and talking behind my back. My new found “friends” were feeling a bit intimidated by my physique. I was very hurt because they were untruthful and I think, subconsciously I decided to gain weight. So within three month I had picked up 30 kg’s. I had to be accepted in our new town, it was our new life and I subconsciously decided that if I was fat, they wouldn’t be so intimidated and they would start to like me again!
What a fool I was … they were still intimidated!
I started FUNN, because I couldn’t find anything to wear and because of my success, they found something new to snicker and talk about!!!
In effect, what I did was to make their insecurities mine! With the help of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) and my best friend (she’s an EFT consultant), I’ve come to realise these feelings and emotions in this last year (2003) and I’m working very hard to get my weight under control and it’s going really well.
Don’t underestimate the power of your mind, thoughts and the words that you say and that other people say to you and about you - they can have a profound effect on your self-esteem. Acceptance is very important to everyone – A sense of belonging is so important, your mind will physically change your body to ensure that the “pain” of not being wanted or rejected is eliminated.
That is why God says: “Think before you speak!” You’ll never know how your words will affect another person!
Here are just a few of the things I’ve learned:
- Really get to know yourself (what makes you, who you are?)
- Find out what your purpose in life is (to help others, to be a mother?)
- Set your goals (50 years to next week)
- Live every day as if it were your last (laugh and have fun)
- Sometimes the most painful experiences, can lead to growth and change to bring about the most successful of our endeavours.
- If circumstances and events are negative, we can choose that they either negatively impact and diminish us, or that they motivate and empower us to do something positive and worthwhile.
- You can always make something that seems negative into a positive opportunity!
… & A lot more, but I won’t bore you with it all …
I really hope that everyone who reads this letter will find the inspiration to look deep within themselves to find the true reason for their existence. Strive to be the best that you can be, you only get one go at this “life-thing”. Don’t wake up one morning and realise that you’re 80 years old and you haven’t lived!
Don’t regret the things you haven’t done..... rather have regrets about what you have done!
My favourite saying is … You don’t stop playing because you get old … … You get old because you stop playing …
I’ve wasted many years, don’t you do the same!
I love life and I make sure that I live every day to the maximum of my potential.

FUNN The FUNN Group of Companies were established in 1994, when I suddenly gained 30kg within 3 months! I couldn’t find any clothes that really looked good on my new beautifully enlarged body … I am fortunate enough to come from a background of designers and extremely creative people, who all encouraged me to create my own line of clothing, lingerie, swimwear and cotton sleepwear.... Which I did!
“ A Womans sensuality comes from within “ … Embrace who you are & the way you look … ... Marilyn Monroe did … … Camryn Manheim still does … & so will you, when you have FUNN in your life !

Dear Celia Thanks for your courage in sharing your personal story. I’m sure the years of painful experience has made you stronger, although it often takes time and distance to see it in that perspective. I hope you decide to continue sharing your story with WhyWeight, I know I would love to hear lots more about your journey..... and your comment ‘& A lot more, but I won’t bore you with it all …’ - well ‘boring’ is just a negative perspective, and I for one have found your story and comments extremely “INTERESTING’ and positively Inspiring!
Thank you for your courage and for your EXAMPLE! Well done and Good Luck with all your endeavours! Be it FUNN, your weight, or EFT
Wishing you a wonderful 2004, the confidence to dance, the joy to laugh wildly, the heart to love deeply and the spirit to embrace all the beauty in life!
