21….with 19 years experience….!
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming "WOO HOO what a ride!"

Holidays with kids!
Now, that is the best description of an oxymoron that I have ever come across in my life! The word “Holiday” should never be linked with the words “children, babies, toddlers” unless you are at a fully catered hotel or have a caregiver or child minder along on holiday with you!!! -

I am existing, not living!
Today is my daughter, Tyla’s third birthday and I should be so proud and happy. Instead I feel numb, shut down and totally devoid of emotion – not happy nor sad. Why?  Well, I have just realised that for the past seven months I have not “lived”, but merely existed.....

My Life Plot
After our mishap in November (the armed robbery), I thought I had been handling things quite well, and that I had taken back my power from those that tried to overpower us on that awful day – but little did I know that 3 months later, I would be feeling the effects of Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome!....

The Deciding Factor
How do you DECIDE to live, not just HOPE to live it to the fullest? How do you live in the NOW and not just STAY in the present? With the ease of technology (cell phones, faxes, email and internet) we should have more time for ourselves, however we end up being over-worked, stressed-out and try and do more and more......

Open your cage….
How often in life we get thrown a series of curve balls, that lumped together, seem to form a heavy web around us, and the more we struggle to cope with each ball, the tighter the web seems to hold onto us. These balls are often a result of things in your life that happen, or need sorting out, settling, dealing with or getting over....

“Two thousand and FIX! 200FIX
Should this be “The year of self-reflection”?  For “Goal setting and mapping”?  Accomplishments and goals, do I have any? And if not, why not? What do I need to do to make 2006 my year of Two thousand and fix? What needs fixing, what’s not broke but needs oiling, readjusting or reaffirming?

Tyla's Tale
After my son was born in 1998, and with me being ill with ME (Yuppie Flu and Candidiasis), I did not put much store in my family growing any bigger than just the three of us. On 22nd February 2003, I went for my yearly gynae visit and told the doc that we were considering trying for a second child but that I only wanted to fall pregnant by the end of the year.  The doc suggested that my loop be removed now and that we use protection for a couple of months to give my hormones a chance to settle and that due to my medical history said that it could take longer to fall pregnant this time (last time took us 15 months). So out it came and off I went.

It’s time to fly!
My family and I have just been on holiday – our longest (10 days) in over 10 years, and on my return turned on my computer and downloaded my emails. The first email I happened to read was sent by a friend of mine who has been through a particularly tough weight issue over the past couple of months. When I read the article that she had attached, I was inspired beyond belief.

My 1/2 day, 24/7 life!
Seven years ago before my son was given to us to brighten our days and awaken our nights, I worked in a full-day position.  Leaving home by 7am and arriving sometimes way after 9pm (even the occasional midnight hour). With my hubby on film shoots or 6-day edits we never really considered what would happen to our time when the babies came! Mostly our lives revolved around work, with us often sitting down for dinner after 10 at night and catching up on each other's days.

The Candida Curse!
I am what is known as an "antibiotic child" - a child who grew up in the late sixties and early seventies, that doctors prescribed antibiotics to for the slightest infection - both viral and bacterial. I was also diagnosed with asthma at 2 years of age. According to my mum, I had probably been prescribed antibiotics 6 - 8 times a year until I was 17 years old. Having never being told or prescribed "probiotics" or "interflora" with the antibiotics until I was 18 - the damage to my digestive tract and system was already extensive.  Antibiotics, although a "miracle drug" that has helped countless millions, also kills off good bacteria which is necessary for a healthy digestive system and immune system.

Like Mother, like daughter…
Most times when someone mentions relationships, our first thought is that of our relationships with the opposite sex.  My first thought was my mom, Romy.  It felt odd to think about my mum first, but then I realised that now that I have children of my own, it seems that I need my mom more than ever.

Lets Pretend
As I am writing this, I am lying outside in the garden watching Tyla (my 14-month old daughter) playing in a giant plastic clam shell, surrounded by beach toys (with no beach or beach sand in sight!) and I realise that it's just not as fun as the real thing for me, but it does not seem to make any difference to Tyla.  She doesn't have a beach memory to compare to her empty sandpit and is as happy as a pig in the mud, exploring her surroundings and beach toys...
spades, buckets and bottles!

Me, myelf and I!
Let me let you into a little secret - I have been having an affair!  Yep, I'm married but this is not that type of affair - it does not involve another person - it's an affair with myself.  It's a love/hate relationship that I have had going for years involving me, the bathroom scale, mirrors and my wardrobe! and yes, it is governed by the same emotions as any roller-coaster relationship - love, fear, acceptance, disgust, sometimes almost hate!
