Be Gentle With Yourself!

"You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserves your love and affection."
-- Buddha

Do you sometimes question yourself to the point that you make yourself dizzzzy.... wondering at the purpose of it all. Laying awake, instead of getting a good nights sleep, only to wake up in the morning feeling exhausted by the thought of your normal routine. Then, go through the day chastising yourself for unhealthy habits, overloading on caffeine to keep yourself going, eating the wrong foods, bingeing on sweets and chocolate bars to give you that sugar boost....

Your thoughts swirling in a mass of self-criticism, worsening your down in the dumps feeling?

So consider for a moment if you had a friend who talked to you like you sometimes talk to yourself, would you stick around to take that sort of treatment?

I’m guessing that the answer would be NO!

So give it a rest and “Be Gentle With Yourself and Your Body!”

Life itself is a series of ups and downs, enjoyable peaks followed by those deep valleys. And even if we seldom understand the reasons why things happen as they sometimes do, such is the nature of the journey of life. A cycle of ongoing growth, change and learning that stretches us to evolve and expand and which offers it’s own rewards, happiness and fulfilment

Thanks to the power of our inner critic, we sometimes doubt the fact that we are entitled to enjoy and embrace all aspects of life... the valleys, the upward climb, the splendour of the summit and then the journey after the fact.... because we have a poor opinion of ourselves.

The challenge then is to love ourselves, despite how we are feeling and really to be gentle and kind with ourselves.

I heard a great quote the other day;

“A critic is a legless man who teaches us running.”
-- Channing Pollock

So, next time you catch that inner-critic giving you a beating... consider how you love your partner, children, parents, family and friends, and realise that.... You as much as anybody in your life is entitled and deserves your love and affection.... So “Be Gentle and Loving with Yourself!”
