April Madness! For Fools and Fluffy Tails!

“Life is either a DARING Adventure or Nothing!”
Helen Keller

Dear Diary
No longer will I prank my friends and family on April Fool’s Day – this time I’m going to try my damndest to fool them every day – all 30 of them!

I’ll “play” the fool; “act” the fool and “be” the fool!  I’ll even try to be a “Royal Fool” (although probably more like a “Royal Pain in the A**!”) I’ll ask stupid questions and give flippant answers … “how are you today?”… “Better than an idea that flies like a brick doesn’t, and you?”

I’ll clown around and not take life so seriously – I’ll dress up like the Easter bunny and hide my own eggs! Or even try and find the hen that lays chocolate eggs! I’ll hide the eggs in the house this year, all month long! We’ll find them in the laundry basket, in the filing cabinet and in the doll’s house!  We’ll eat them for dinner, with veggies for desert!  We’ll celebrate with “bunny milk” (Nesquick silly - you should know that!) laced with cream and condensed milk, leaving white mustaches to lick off later; and don our hand crafted bunny-ears and wear them for our days out!

April is for “Madness” (and knowing me, I’ll fit right in! *Grin*).  It’s for fluffy bunnies and chocolate egg smiles; it’s for celebrating the end of Summer and the cooler days of Autumn.  It’s for snuggling, nestling and tickling and for doing things differently – try it – you might like it too! Who knows, maybe we’ll start a new trend!  Cos as you know … madness is catching!

Watch out for May … it’s only a month away….Happy Holidays!

Write to you soon, dear diary
Sleep well
Me
xx

Why do we celebrate April Fools Day?
Truth is we really don't know where the tradition of playing pranks on people came from. There are a few theories floating around though. When the western world used the Julian calendar, the year began on March 25th because they celebrated the start of a new year with the start of spring. However since that fell in the Holy Week, they celebrated it on the first of April. However when we switched to the Gregorian calendar in the 1500s, we moved the New Year to the first of January. According to the most widely told story, those who still celebrated the New Year on April 1st were called April fools. The Encyclopedia of Religion and the Encyclopedia Britannica thinks that the timing of April Fool's Day is directly related to the arrival of Spring, when nature 'fools' humans with erratic weather. The Country Diary of Garden Lore has a theory that April Fools Day commemorates "the fruitless mission of the rook (the European crow) who was sent out in search of land from Noah's flood-surrounded ark."
So, on April 1st are you going to be the tricked or the trickster?
