“Two thousand and FIX! 200FIX

Should this be “The year of self-reflection”?  For “Goal setting and mapping”? Accomplishments and goals, do I have any? And if not, why not? What do I need to do to make 2006 my year of Two thousand and fix? What needs fixing, what’s not broke but needs oiling, readjusting or reaffirming?

So many times we look at the 1st January as the time to make changes or resolutions. So this year my New Year’s Resolution is to embrace who I am and who I can be – this year is for the seasons of me.

Now I have to decide what my Spring, my Summer, my Autumn and Winter will be!

My Summer…

  • January was for RECOVERY AND REFLECTION; for losing the extra weight tipped on by that wonderful time of holidays at the sea! For healing my bank balance from the onslaught of buying gifts and eating out – often!

  • February was for FUN & LAUGHTER; and also birthday wishes (I’m almost at the “R35.95 plus vat” age.)  For opening gifts, and spending cherished hours with my valentine.

My Autumn…

  • March is for my SOUL; my poor tired soul, that due to time constraints with kids, takes a backseat to so many other things.  This year I will find that guilt-free time to heal my soul!  To let my inner colours change like the leaves on the trees and feel the still-warm sun bring gold into my heart.

  • April is for ADVENTURE; any way that it comes … finding Easter eggs with the kids in a dew-wet garden; for following bunny droppings into the undergrowth and squealing when we’ve found our treasure; for taking time off work to spend with the kids and enjoy their school holiday time and find ways to spur their imagination in adventurous ways.

  • May is for TAKING TIME; time to do the things that I have set aside, my photo albums, cleaning cupboards and getting de-junked from all the things I have held onto, because maybe one day …… I’ll use them.  Time to take time, make time and give time to me and mine.

My Winter…

  • June is for FRIENDSHIP; for renewing old friendships, and making new ones. Spending an hour or so with friend with a new baby; or going on a shop-and-return spree with a friend for an afternoon.  Spending time with my mom and my sister – my bestest friends; and most importantly, making friends with ME!

  • July is for SNUGGLING; what better weather in which to indulge in my favourite pastime. Those crisp winter afternoons spent on the couch, under a warm blanket, eating popcorn and watching movies, …and when the kids are asleep, snuggling next to the fire with my favourite bed-warmer, my husband.

  • August is for CHANGE; when those winds blow, let them blow me to new views or life for the better, let me embrace the changes I need to make. A new wardrobe or a new outlook – both change the way I view the world or how the world views me.

My Spring…

  • September is for NEW BEGINNINGS;  new leaves on the trees, for the newness of starting new projects, and finding new found feelings in me; that blank piece of paper that when colourful events are applied, a kaleidoscope of images appear and a new perspective on life is born.

  • October is for OUTLOOK; I must see the glass half-full and not half-empty. My life is richer when I shut out pessimism and adopt instead for optimism. For knowing that whatever path I take, it is my choice, my fate, my ka.  My mantra should be “Things happen for a reason… What will be, will be – it is ka!”

My Summer…

  • November is for GRATITUDE; to who I am in my place in the world, wife, lover, friend, sister, daughter, and mom. Being grateful for having my life so enriched by the people that surround me, for having a heart that expands with the love that I am shown and am given so freely.

And the seasons will come around again as they do, and as they have done for millennium, and I will live my life in the present, accepting the past and looking forward to my future…

  • December is for CELEBRATING; that a year has passed, and we are well and happy and can look back at the days that we have had and be thankful.  For realizing that I cannot fix the world but that I can try and help just one part of it, and in making my difference in the world, I will be making that difference in my life.

Control your destiny or somebody else will.
